Downtown West Palm Beach is a Walkers Paradise!
According to www.walkscore.com – a new web site that calculates the “walkability” of an area by locating nearby services and amenities – the Clematis District is considered a “walkers paradise” on par with the country’s most walkable neighborhoods, including New York’s Tribeca, Soho and Murray Hill; as well as San Francisco’s Chinatown and Financial District!
To see what others are saying about how easy it is to walk downtown, visit: www.walkingclematis.com.
Walkscore.com, which ranks the country’s 40 biggest cities, rates addresses on a score from 0 to 100 to determine walkability. The Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) office at 301 Clematis Street, within the Clematis District, earns a 97. The web site says the number of nearby amenities is the leading predictor of whether people walk, though other factors including density, parks and public space, pedestrian-centric design, and nearby schools and mixed-use, mixed-income housing also add to a neighborhood’s walkability. The more walkable an area is, the more benefits individuals see in their health, the environment and their community.
A score below 50 is “car-dependent” and a score of 90 to 100 is a “walker's paradise,” like the Clematis District. See where your residence ranks on Walkscore.com by typing in your address!
